Bir şey/şeylerin var olup-olmadığını anlatmak için kullanılır.

Cümle yapısı:

Cümle kuruluşunda, isim çoğul ise, "there is", isim çoğul ise "there are" kullanılır.

   There is some water.    Biraz su var.

   There are some students.   Birkaç öğrenci var.

Soru yapmak için, yardımcı fiil (is, are) cümlenin başına alınır. Diğer kelimeler yerlerinde kalır.

   Is there some water?    Biraz su var mı?

   Are there are some students.   Birkaç öğrenci var mı?

Cümle kuruluşunda, olumsuz yapmak için yardımcı fiile (is, are) "not" kelimesi eklenir. 

   There is not any water.    Hiç su yok.

   There are not any students.   Hiç öğrenci yok.

1.  Is there any table in the classroom?

     Yes, There is.       Evet, var.

     Yes, There is one table in the classroom.    Evet, sınıfta bir masa var.

     No, there isn't.     Hayır, yok.

     No, there isn't any table in the classroom.     Hayır, sınıfta hiç masa yok

2.  Are there any students in the classroom?    Sınıfta hiç öğrenci var mı?

     Yes, There are.       Evet, var.

     Yes, There are 30 students in the classroom.    Evet, sınıfta 30 öğrenci var.

     No, there aren't.     Hayır, yok.

     No, there aren't any students in the classroom.     Hayır, sınıfta hiç öğrenci yok

3.  How many books are there?  Kaç adet kitap var?  (sayılabilen isimler için)

     There are 5 books.       Beş adet kitap var.

     There aren't any books.    Hiç kitap yok.

     There are no books.       Hiç kitap yok.

4.  How much sugar is there?   Ne kadar şeker var?   (sayılamayan isimler için)

     There is some sugar.    Biraz şeker var.

     There isn't any sugar.   Hiç şeker yok.

     There is no sugar.   Hiç şeker yok.
